In Baden-Württemberg, investigators arrested a 52-year-old man, according to the police in Reutlingen.
He is strongly suspected of having shot and killed a 23-year-old in Albstadt on Wednesday.
Paramedics first took the man to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The 52-year-old fled the scene and was arrested at home a short time later.
Police officers confiscated a pistol he was carrying.
According to the police, the suspect is the relative of a 20-year-old woman from Albstadt who has been missing since Sunday.
The suspect apparently informed the police that the 20-year-old was dead.
Police officers then dug up the man's garden and found a female body.
This is therefore "with a high degree of probability" to the missing person.
The woman was apparently the victim of a homicide, with the 52-year-old being considered an urgent suspect, it said.
The investigations into this were still ongoing.
The bodies of the 23-year-old and the 20-year-old are now to be autopsied, the suspect is to appear before the magistrate later in the day, as a police spokeswoman said.
Police say the motive for the crimes is still unclear.
"The accused is making use of his right to remain silent," said the spokeswoman.
"There is little knowledge of the exact course of events." According to the investigators, all three involved knew each other.
