Fireworks are allowed again on New Year's Eve 2022.
So after two years of firecracker ban everything as usual?
No: In specialist shops, prices increase drastically.
Hamm – On New Year's Eve there was a ban on firecrackers in North Rhine-Westphalia and throughout Germany for two years.
The reason: Corona.
Fireworks could neither be sold nor ignited on public streets.
This should avoid large crowds of people.
But on New Year's Eve 2022, rockets and firecrackers are allowed again.

The two years without a sale have left their mark on the fireworks industry — and the customer is now feeling the effects.

According to Ingo Schubert, Managing Director of the Federal Association for Pyrotechnics and Artificial Fireworks (BVPK), consumers are facing a drastic price increase for rockets and firecrackers in specialist shops and in their own online shops.
"Compared to 2019, consumers will see price increases of between 50 and 100 percent, with 100 percent likely to be the exception this year," he told

.
But why are the prices rising when, after a two-year sales ban, dealers should actually have full warehouses?
According to Schubert, the reason is that smaller suppliers used their goods at events such as weddings and concerts.
The warehouses were empty, supplies were needed.
And according to the BVPK boss, the dealers were confronted with drastically increased delivery costs.
“For dangerous goods, the freight costs are much higher.
The prices have normalized less than with normal freight containers,” says Schubert.
And that's not all: As in all other sectors, rising wage and energy costs are also driving up the prices for the end product, reports wa.de.
Fireworks on New Year's Eve 2022: Probably no price increase in the supermarket
Anyone who fears that they won't be able to afford the fireworks this year can take a deep breath.
According to the managing director of the Association of the Pyrotechnic Industry (VPI), the situation is different for large manufacturers and importers who also supply supermarkets and discounters.
Most of the unsold firecrackers and rockets could have been stored, Klaus Gotzen explains to

.
These could be sold for New Year's Eve 2022.
"We can't say for sure if prices will go up.
So far, however, the information from the companies is that they have not yet had to raise prices.”

By the way: In Germany, fireworks are only sold in the immediate period before New Year's Eve.
It is clearly defined: from December 29th to December 31st.
Some cities in NRW are also planning no firecracker zones for New Year's Eve 2022.
