"I walked for 2,800 kilometers and I never saw a moment of hate": Rahul Gandhi said this afternoon in Delhi, in the speech with which he concluded the stage in the capital of the "Bharat Jodo Yatra", the Unity March that began on September 7 with the aim of "uniting the country".
"Many people took part in the march, and all kinds of animals, cows, buffaloes, pigs, dogs: no one was molested. What I'm going through is India that knows no violence or hatred: but when I turn on the television, I only see clashes between Hindus and Muslims, and in the media we only hear about attacks, 24 hours a day. That's what the rulers are asking to distract from the real problems," said Gandhi.
The march through the capital, now in its 108th day, was followed and applauded along the way by an "impressive" number of people described by the media.
In the morning, Rahul Gandhi was joined by his mother Sonia, and the moment of her embrace offered the photographers a touch of emotion.
Sister Priyanka, with her husband and children, instead walked alongside Rahul in the afternoon, up to the Red Fort.
From tomorrow the march will be suspended for the end of year holidays.
Gandhi and the 120 marchers who have accompanied him since the first day will resume their journey on January 3, heading north, with the intention of reaching Kashmir in mid-February.
