According to the police, plans by climate activists from the group "Last Generation" to disrupt a Christmas service broadcast live on ARD television have been thwarted.
Since there were indications of the planned action on Christmas Eve in the Church of the Resurrection in Stuttgart-Möhringen, the service was recorded the day before, the police said on Saturday.
Activists stood in front of a closed church
On Christmas Eve, eight activists from the group turned up in front of the church at noon to carry out their planned action.
But they would not have found a live broadcast, but a closed church.
The parish office called the police.
When they arrived, the officials found two potential troublemakers, who were released after being sent off.
Activists sawed off the top of the Christmas tree at the Brandenburg Gate on Wednesday.
On a lifting platform, two people rolled out a banner on Pariser Platz in Berlin-Mitte that said "This is just the tip of the Christmas tree," a police spokeswoman said.
Then they drove to the top of the 15 meter high Nordmann fir tree with the lifting platform during the protest action in the morning.
They cut off the tip with a hand saw – according to the group, a symbolic image of Germany’s climate policy.
"So far in Germany we have only seen the tip of the underlying catastrophe," said an activist about the protest action.
Since the beginning of 2022, the "last generation" has been blocking motorway exits and intersections in Berlin and other major cities to fight for more climate protection.
There were also campaigns in museums, stadiums, ministries, at airports and on oil pipelines.
In Berlin alone, according to the police, climate protection groups blocked roads around 276 times in 2022.
In addition, there were 42 other actions, some of which were criminal, by mid-December.
In total, there have already been 2,200 criminal charges and 600 fines in the capital.
