Driver's license exchange for certain years: Deadline ended January 2023
In July 2022, drivers born between 1953 and 1958 were affected.
Now the next deadline for the driver's license exchange is ending soon.
According to a table by the General German Automobile Club (ADAC), January 2023 will be for people born between 1959 and 1964.
All drivers who belong to this age group should now immediately deal with the exchange of their driving licence.
According to the information, the offices need several weeks for the entire process.
Exchanging old driver's licenses: This is how the change works
As the ADAC writes, the driver's license exchange runs relatively smoothly before the deadline.
The persons concerned must go to their driving license office and apply there to exchange their driving license for motorcycle and car classes.
An examination or health check is not necessary.
However, you should have your identity card or passport, a biometric passport photo and a current driver's license with you.
Validity of the new driver's license
According to the ADAC, the new EU driving license remains valid for an unlimited period, regardless of when you took the driving test.
Only the "validity of the driver's license document is limited to 15 years".
However, the traffic experts also make it clear that

The ADAC also says:
“Anyone who continues to drive with their old car or motorcycle license and allows the deadline to expire risks a fine of 10 euros.

Regardless of the year of issue, according to ADAC information, holders of a driving license whose year of birth is before 1953 must exchange their driving license by January 19, 2033.
