Timing of the budget law, the aim is to close on 28-29

The last brief sprint of the maneuver in the Senate, with no surprises on the horizon, and the approval of the photo finish of the rave decree in the Chamber: the last parliamentary week of 2022 will live on these two fronts. The budget law arrives at Palazzo Madama, armored after the green light in the first reading in Deputies at dawn on Christmas Eve.

The goal of the majority and the government is to approve it definitively on Wednesday evening, a couple of days ahead of the budget laws of the last two years, which closed on December 30th.

On the 29th, then, eyes focused on the end-of-year press conference of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (initially scheduled for the 28th and then postponed by one day), and on Saturday evening on the traditional end-of-year speech by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

The scheduling of the maneuver will be defined by the group leaders' conference, convened at 13, one hour before the Palazzo Madama Assembly.

It will be incardinated in the Budget commission - with Nicola Calandrini as rapporteur - where the deadlines for amendments and agendas will be indicated, even if the text will not be modified.

"The Senate - observes Calandrini - given the times, will only be able to ratify the budget law approved by the Chamber, in any case guaranteeing the spaces for political intervention that will be established by the conference of group leaders".

The commission plans to conclude in two days: it has already been convened for Tuesday and Wednesday, morning and afternoon.

According to majority sources, the aim is to complete the exam at Palazzo Madama on Wednesday evening with a vote of confidence in the Chamber, or at the latest on Thursday morning.

At the same time, the times are also tight in the Chamber to convert the anti-rave decree into law by Friday, which also contains the measures on life imprisonment, on the implementing rules of the Cartabia reform and on vaccination obligations.

It was approved in the Senate on 13 December, but in the Deputies Chamber it arrives only on the 27th, from 10 am with votes not before 2 pm. Going beyond 30 December means making it void, for this reason the majority fear some form of obstruction on the part of the oppositions.
