Only when - that is the question.

The 49-euro ticket should come in 2023 and tie in with the popular 9-euro ticket.

It is not yet certain when the successor will be launched.

On January 1st or not until spring?

Munich - At Deutsche Bahn you are prepared.

The 49-euro ticket - the Deutschlandticket - is already available on the online page under Tickets & Offers.

"As part of the federal government's third relief package, the Germany ticket was approved as the successor product to the 9-euro ticket," the site informs.

“In this way, you can continue to travel cheaply and climate-neutrally in local transport and travel throughout Germany on all local transport at a fixed price.” But the experts at Deutsche Bahn don’t know exactly when the ticket will be available either.

Anyone who clicks on the red button "Information on purchase" cannot buy the ticket.

Only a text appears with the content that the aim is to offer the Deutschlandticket as soon as possible.

January, April or May - when will the 49-euro ticket come out?

It should come, the Deutschlandticket.

That much is certain.

But after the federal and state governments have agreed on the financing of the Germany ticket, technical questions have to be clarified before sales start, writes the ADAC.

According to the automobile club, April 1 or May 1, 2023 is the most likely date for the introduction.

The Greens hope to start the 49-euro ticket in early April.

"The plan is to start on April 1, 2023," they inform.

Whether that is actually possible depends on how quickly questions about state aid are clarified at EU level and how quickly the countries regulate the details for the introduction, such as the distribution of future ticket income and compensation payments.

Is the 49 euro ticket worth it?

Who saves and who does not save on the 49-euro ticket.

The consumer portal Testbericht.de

calculated

that there would be an average saving of 24 percent for subscription monthly tickets .

Employees had compared the prices for subscription monthly tickets and those sold individually in all state capitals and all municipalities with more than 200,000 inhabitants with the ticket that is valid throughout Germany – and compared the prices for single journeys.

The result: In nine out of ten cities, regular public transport users will definitely benefit from the new ticket.

49-euro ticket - that should apply to subscriptions

Many users of public transport have a subscription for local transport.

MVG wants to inform its existing customers about the 49-euro ticket as soon as possible.

If the Deutschlandticket is cheaper than the existing subscription, you should be able to rebook if necessary.

49-Euro Ticket: Summary (as of December 27th, 2022)

  • The 49-euro ticket will be available digitally and as a plastic card.

  • The 49-euro ticket should be available as a monthly cancellable subscription.

  • The first debit only takes place when the subscription actually starts.
