We went back in time and remembered all the highlights, dramas and storms that 2022 brought with it fashion wise. It wasn't easy, but we finally narrowed it down to the 5 most talked about fashion moments

If fashion is an expression of the times we live in, then 2022 was a particularly stormy year.

The rising anti-Semitism, the environmental damage, the war in Ukraine and the exploitation of children, all found their way to the fashion headlines.

It seems that in order to enter the list of the looks that caused the most buzz, it is no longer enough to wear a very beautiful piece that has a (positive) consensus around it.

Indeed, dramas and agendas hovered over the highlights of this year's fashion: the comeback of supermodel Linda Evangelista after a long struggle with a failed cosmetic procedure, Kim Kardashian almost ruined a historic piece when she insisted on slipping into a dress that was too small for her just for 10 minutes of fame on the red carpet, and Bella Hadid "sacrificed" her body to science when a dress was sprayed on her during a live performance on the runway.

Below are the 5 most iconic and talked about fashion shows of the past year.

During a couple's weekend in January of this year, Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, encountered (or hired) a paparazzi photographer who recorded them walking around New York, with the star showing off her magnificent baby bump for the first time!

In honor of the iconic and much-anticipated event, the sizzling singer wore a long pink vintage Chanel coat (from the nineties) that remained open above her stomach, and completed the look with body jewelry, and light wash jeans that were decorated with a chain belt from the coveted French fashion house.

In this block, Rihanna not only celebrated her belly, but rewrote the rules of maternity wear!

By inspiring many women to feel good and celebrate themselves at all stages of pregnancy, she even redefined what is considered "proper" for pregnant women.

2. Kim Kardashian damages Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress

This is what it looks like when a fashion highlight turns into a cultural scandal: In May of this year, Kim Kardashian showed up to the Met Gala wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress.

The masterpiece, valued at approximately 5 million dollars, was originally designed personally and exclusively for Monroe in 1962 (when she served President John F. Kennedy) by Jean Louis, and was inspired by a sketch by Bob Mackie.

For weeks, the network was furious - the decision of the main Kardashian to wear the dress was controversial, and the network did not spare her criticism.

Some attacked her for daring to wear an item of such historical significance, and for causing considerable damage to the dress just for a few minutes of fame on the red carpet (after which she changed into a replica of the dress).

While others, commented on the reality star's proud admission that she went on a crash diet and lost 16 kg in three weeks just so she could fit into a dress, claiming that her behavior encourages an unhealthy and unattainable ideal of beauty.

3. At the age of 54, Nicole Kidman poses in a micro mini skirt for the cover of a magazine

If there was one item that dominated the magazine covers, the red carpets and even the Insta feed, it is the micro mini skirt of the Italian fashion house "Miu Miu".

The tiny and daring a la college style skirt, with its ultra-low waistline, was everywhere in 2022, and it is even claimed that it heralds a return to an early and controversial aesthetic (aren't it the era of "heroine chic").

Then, at the age of 54, the illustrious Nicole Kidman stars on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in the skirt in question, and of course - caused a major media storm.

Kidman, who wore a total look from Miu Miu's cropped crop collection, displayed an extremely thin and shapely figure, and received negative reactions mainly from netizens, who on the one hand raised an eyebrow and asked "Why does a fifty-plus-year-old woman look like a "girl" on a magazine cover?", and also noted The excessive retouching that they think the photos have undergone.

4. Linda Evangelista returns to the runway for the first time in 15 years

Already on the first day of New York Fashion Week, which took place in September, "Fendy" raised the bar, but there is no doubt that the one and only Linda Evangelista stole the show!

In collaboration with Marc Jacobs and the luxury jewelry brand Tiffany, the Italian fashion house presented the resort collection for 2023, and along the way celebrated the 25th anniversary of the baguette bag.

But the climax was signed by the supermodel Linda Evangelista who closed the show, when she was injured for the first time on the runway in 15 years, after in recent years she isolated herself from the world after revealing that a cosmetic procedure left her "brutally disfigured" (in her words).

The veteran model (who proved she's still as relevant as ever) glided out onto the runway in a Tiffany blue gown, with the iconic baguette bag on her arm, to a standing ovation.

She looked more elegant and glamorous than ever.

5. The viral moment of Paris Fashion Week: Bella Hadid and the spray dress

On the sixth day of Paris Fashion Week, which took place last October, the French brand "Coperni" closed the show with Bella Hadid who took to the runway in only underwear and high heels, while a group of scientists sprayed a dress on her body - using a spray containing synthetic fibers that, once they dried, quickly turned into a made-up dress. A white cloth - and the play went viral in an instant!

About the technology used to create the dress, the designers of the brand followed the scientists of the Fabrican company (which was founded by the fashion designer and scientist Manel Torres).

Thousands of comments appeared on the brand's Instagram account immediately after the stunning show that closed the show, and alongside the admirers there were also quite a few critics who slammed that it was not "original" - as Alexander McQueen already did it more than two decades ago when two robots sprayed black and phosphorescent yellow spray on a white dress Worn by supermodel Shalom Harlow.

Either way, Bella Hadid was definitely the talk of the week in Paris last fall.
