Iranian chess champion Sara Khadim al-Sharia took part in the 2022 World Championship in Kazakhstan without wearing the mandatory hijab.
This was reported by Iran international which published a photo of the young woman at the chessboard without the veil.
Despite pressure and the violent repression of the Tehran government, personalities from sport and the arts continue to protest against the hijab.
One of the first Iranian female athletes to appear in competition without a headscarf was Elnaz Rekabi during rock climbing competitions in South Korea.
Now it's the turn of Sara Khadim al-Sharia, the first Iranian chess player who, in addition to earning the rank of female grandmaster, also managed to win the title of international chess master at the 84th World Chess Congress at the age aged 18.
