In his own words, fashion designer Wolfgang Joop had to completely change his relationship with model and TV presenter Heidi Klum.
"The first time I met, I had to apologize," said the 78-year-old of the "Berliner Morgenpost" when he was a juror in the Klum show "Germany's next top model".
"I'd always hit Karl Lagerfeld's horn before, along the lines of: She's not a model, we've never seen her in Paris."
In fact, Joop has long made no secret of his dislike of Klum.
"She's average to perfection, right down to the perfectly dyed curls," he was quoted as saying.
The twenty minutes he once spent at a Heidi Klum theme party in New York were the worst of his life, he said another time.
The exhibitionism, showing off young girls - »not my style«.
Until the Potsdam designer himself became part of this garish, pimped world of Klum's model casting show in 2014.
That changed his view of Klum.
»You have to understand: Heidi Klum does not stand for fashion, but for entertainment.
She has built a mega career in the USA with iron discipline and is therefore our only German superstar,” said Joop.
“Not many can do that.
And I have absolute respect for this lifetime achievement.«
