"What happened in the Beccaria prison in Milan is the latest indicator of a growing and alarming youth unease, which everyone - each in their own role - is called to deal with. I trust that the interventions, implemented and planned by the ministry, can contribute to create the best possible conditions so that the children in juvenile penal institutions never return to commit crimes".
This was stated by the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, who is following developments in the situation after the escape "with concern".
He will also propose, he explains, "the establishment of an inter-ministerial table" on juvenile delinquency
"I immediately asked Undersecretary Andrea Ostellari to personally verify the situation of the institute, where the heads of the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice also immediately went", explains Minister Nordio.
In Beccaria's events, the Minister of Justice points out "a positive aspect": "I find it significant that the family members of at least one escaped boy pushed him to turn himself in: it is also a sign of trust in our institutions and in our very valid operators".
"From here - concludes the Minister of Justice - we must resume our work. As I have already said on other occasions, the fight against juvenile delinquency calls into question the institutions of justice, but also of schools, health, culture, together with the world of associations and the third sector", and for this reason he explains that he intends to propose "as soon as possible the establishment of an inter-ministerial table, involving all the institutions and the third sector,
Of the perpetrators of the riots that broke out on Christmas day, including fires, after the escape from the Beccaria juvenile prison in Milan, seven were transferred yesterday.
From what has been known, two are in Catania, the others in Bari, Catanzaro, Potenza, Palermo and Caltanissetta.
