The president of the Argentine Football Federation (AFA), Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia, has assured that the coach of the world champion national team, Lionel Scaloni, will renew the contract at the helm of the 'Selección'.
"We are men of our word, so we have no doubts that he will continue to be coach of the 'albiceleste' as we had already agreed before the start of the World Cup in Qatar", Tapia told the press today.
Scaloni's contract expires at the end of the year, and the AFA's goal is to renew it until 2026, the year in which the World Cup will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 44-year-old Argentine coach was appointed as interim coach of the 'Seleccion' in 2018 after the disappointing elimination of Argentina led by Jorge Sampaoli in the round of 16 of the World Cup held in Russia.
Without any experience to his credit except as an assistant to Sampaoli himself and a passage as coach of the national team, Scaloni was confirmed in the position despite the general skepticism of the Argentine press.
The good results obtained right from the start and the excellent relationship established with the dressing room and with Leo Messi in particular spoke in favor of him.
Scaloni's confirmation at the helm of the 'Selección' then led to the victory of the 2021 America's Cup held in Brazil;
the 'Finalissima' played at Wembley against Italy;
and the World Cup held in Qatar.
