With the trick of a TikTok user, it works so quickly that you hardly have time to shed the usual onion tears.

Many people are sensitive to raw onions, but they are somehow a part of matjes and burgers.
They become milder and more tolerable if you pickle the onions or if they are very finely chopped.
Cutting with a knife can be difficult for non-professionals, a vegetable slicer often puts your fingers at risk or cuts uncleanly.
A resourceful TikTok user found a method where you only come into contact with the onion for a brief moment - when you peel it.
In a video, he shows how to make wafer-thin rings: Prick the bottom third of the peeled whole onion with a fork as far as it will go and press it down with one hand on the worktop.
With your free hand and a high-quality, sharp cross-peeler, simply slice off thin onion slices from above, and you're done.
