Many know it from their childhood: when the mustard was empty, the glass was used to drink.

This tradition will soon no longer exist.

Most people know that Thomy mustard glasses can also be used as drinking glasses.

In Heilbronn and Baden-Württemberg, too, many families, flat shares and students used the mustard drinking glasses.

These glasses could be found almost everywhere in the cupboards.

They are simply part of the inventory and are even considered a traditional drinking glass for many.

But: In the future, the popular mustard jars will no longer be available!

Tradition is abolished: no more mustard drinking glasses

A bulbous shape, a secure stand, smooth, rounded edges at the opening - the mustard jars from Thomy are the epitome of reuse.

Because once the mustard was spooned out, all you had to do was clean the glass.

The drinking glass was ready and immediately went into the cupboard.

A tradition that not only children of the 80s and 90s know.

These mustard glasses, from which you can drink afterwards, have been around since the 19th century.

The fact that Thomy is now also discontinuing the production of these glasses is a "shock" for many generations.

A piece of childhood is disappearing, a symbol of reuse, a tradition - and that exactly at Christmas time, which is bursting with traditions.

Mustard drinking glass is abolished: consumer desire a reason

The company is now doing away with the glasses and is probably responding to consumer wishes.

Among other things, Mittelhessen.de reports that Thomy has reported that consumers have repeatedly asked for easier handling when opening and closing the jars.

Thomy is now complying with this wish and is changing the mustard glasses you could drink from to ones with a screw cap.

It is not unusual for companies to constantly have to reposition themselves in order to be ready for the future.

There will also soon be major changes at car manufacturer Audi.

The fact that Aus der mustard glasses, which can be used as drinking glasses, is met with incomprehension by many.

Sad users on Twitter and Instagram – Nestlé talks about new glass

On Instagram, users write sad emojis under posts about the message.

Others comment under a post from "You FM": "Our childhood with grandma and grandpa." Or: "Now no mustard drinking glass can break anymore." On Twitter, a user writes of a "crime against all subsequent generations".

Nestlé Germany, to which the Thomy Group belongs, also commented on some posts on Twitter and wrote: “The new mustard jar can also be reused.

The screw cap has the advantage that it is easier to reseal.

So it can be used as a mason jar, for example.” That shouldn't bring back many people's childhood memories.
