A 65-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment after the double murder in the artist village of Fischerhude in Lower Saxony a year ago.
The district court in Verden found that the guilt was particularly serious, which ruled out early release after 15 years.
The court considered it proven that the man, who had failed economically, shot a 73-year-old woman and her 56-year-old son on December 28, 2021 in Fischerhude near Bremen.
A woman who happened to be at the scene of the crime, now 54 years old, suffered a bullet in the head and survived with serious injuries.
The dead were the mother and brother of a former business partner and friend of the accused.
According to the public prosecutor, the insolvent horse breeder wanted to take what he loved from the stud owner from Wehldorf (Rotenburg district).
The man turned himself in to the police the morning after the crime.
With its verdict, the court followed the request of the public prosecutor's office.
The defense had asked for a sentence of less than life imprisonment.
The verdict is not yet legally binding.
