Qu’est-ce qu’une guitalélé ?

Loin d’être un instrument ancien, la guitalélé est d’abord une invention de l’une des grandes marques de référence dans le domaine de la lutherie, à savoir Yamaha. Cet instrument revêt de nombreux néologismes pour le qualifier : guitalélé, guitarlélé, guilélé, ou encore guitare ukulélé... Comme ses différentes appellations le suggèrent, il s’agit tout simplement d’un instrument au croisement entre la guitare et le ukulélé. Son format miniature la rapproche du ukulélé, tandis que son accordement à six cordes est identique à celui d’une guitare. Il s’avère être un bon compromis entre les meilleurs ukulélés pour débutants et la guitare acoustique.

Mais qu’en est-il au point de vue son ? Son format réduit et son accordage aigu rapprochent ses sonorités de celles d’un ukulélé. Mais ce n’est pas aussi simple : car la guitalélé possède aussi six cordes en nylon comme une guitare acoustique. Elle bénéficie donc d’une plus grande richesse sonore et s’adapte à des répertoires musicaux plus complexes. Au moyen d’un capodastre en case cinq, vous pouvez également conférer à votre guitalélé un son assez proche d’une guitare acoustique classique. La caisse de résonance de la guitalélé étant plus petite que celle d’une guitare, on reste néanmoins sur un son plus vif et unique, à mi-chemin entre les sonorités d’un ukulélé et d’une guitare.

Pourquoi acheter une guitalélé plutôt qu’une guitare ?

Il y a de nombreux avantages qui peuvent inciter à l’achat d’une guitalélé. Voici une petite liste non exhaustive de ses nombreux atouts.

Une taille réduite pour un transport pratique

Le premier d’entre eux est sa taille. Vous pouvez ainsi l’amener facilement avec vous lors de vos différentes pérégrinations. Facile à transporter, compacte, pratique, elle pourra être un atout charme lors de vos départs en vacances sur la plage, ou pour d’autres occasions. Sa taille est aussi un avantage pour initier des enfants à la pratique d’un instrument luthier. Sa prise en main, avec ses six cordes à nylon, peut parfaitement permettre une initiation pour votre enfant. La guitare acoustique étant encore trop grande et trop lourde, votre enfant pourra passer à la guitare acoustique en grandissant sans être trop dépaysé.

Si vous pratiquez déjà de la guitare acoustique, vous retrouverez un doigté similaire. Seuls les noms sont différents : si bien que l’accord de Mi de la guitalélé correspond au La de la guitare acoustique.

Un son unique et singulier

Pour vous distinguer lorsque vous jouez, la guitalélé prodigue un son unique en son genre : vif et aigu, mais pas autant qu’un ukulélé, tout en restant suffisamment riche et puissant pour ressembler à la puissance d’une guitare acoustique.

Un instrument idéal pour ceux qui débutent

Par sa préhension et sa prise en main faciles, la guitalélé reste une offre de choix pour tous ceux qui souhaitent s’initier à un instrument à cordes. La pratique du Ukulélé reste un peu éloignée de la guitare classique en raison du fait qu’il ne dispose que de quatre cordes. Ici, la configuration de la guitalélé est proche d’une guitare acoustique classique. Elle peut ainsi servir d’initiation avant de vous tourner vers un instrument à cordes plus pointu.

Électroacoustique ou acoustique : l’embarras du choix

Contrairement aux ukulélés (sauf quelques rares exceptions), la guitalélé est disponible aussi bien en version acoustique qu’en version électroacoustique. Dans ce dernier cas, exactement comme avec un ampli de guitare électrique, cela vous permet d’enregistrer vos sons et même de faire véritablement des compositions professionnelles.

What type of strings for a guitalele?

Like any luthier's instrument, frequent use added to natural degradation will damage your strings which will sooner or later provide a "flat" sound.

So you have to be able to replace them.

For this, of course, you have to find the right guitalele strings.

The strings must therefore be made of nylon, and adapted to the guitalele format.

You will find different sets of guitar strings, of different brands: Aquila and Ortega are sure references.

Good to know: the strings of the guitalele are assembled exactly as with an acoustic guitar.
