How heavy can a bike be? How fast does a bobby car go? And how many people actually fit in a Trabi? In 2022, people had a lot of fun again setting crazy personal bests.

The "heaviest bicycle" in the world: Sebastian Beutler from Köthen in Saxony-Anhalt achieved the official world record set by the German Record Institute (RID) with his 2,180-kilogram bicycle.

The RID is considered the German-language counterpart to the Guinness Book of Records.

And the Germans did a lot again in 2022 to immortalize themselves with top performances.

According to RID, a total of 90 world records have been certified in Germany in the past few months.

Including these two: Marcel Paul raced across the street in Schotten in an unmodified and a modified bobby car at 106.01 and 130.72 kilometers per hour.

The 90 world records are also a personal best: Last year there were 80 and in the first year of the pandemic 2020 there were at least 89, it said.

Statistically speaking, RID, which is based in the Hanseatic city, receives an inquiry every day with a more or less crazy idea.

The "biggest Christmas tree made of tin cans" was built on the Michel square in Hamburg from 3,425 tins.

The »leaning tower in the world«: No, it's not in Pisa, but in Gau-Weinheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, and has an incline of 5.4277 degrees.

The "fastest way to change a tractor rear wheel": In Heeslingen, Lower Saxony, YouTube mechanic Mariam Sukh and workshop expert Menko Lottmann needed just 3 minutes and 16 seconds for the job.

And even if not all inquiries are accepted as a category: According to RID, once the idea has been accepted, very few attempts fail.

After all, people are usually well prepared.

Like these 20 record hunters who squeezed into a Trabant 601 in Zwickau.
