The excellent scene of "The White Lotus" and Ben Stiller's surprise: 2022 on TV | Israel today

2022-12-28T12:15:00.694Z

From week to week we moved from one series to another and just tried (with great difficulty) to keep up • From the series that broke our hearts to the trash that broke every record - Nir Wolff collected for you the great moments of the past year

The year that was: Blame FOMO and social networks, but the public feeling is that we should watch as many series as possible to be part of the conversation and understand what is being talked about.

And so, every binge that ends signifies the beginning of a new binge.

"There is so much content, a billion series, and everyone can barely keep up. The truth is, it's suffocating," Eitan explained in the dialogue that took place between the characters of "The White Lotus" - another must-watch series.

On the other hand, the same endless pursuit of as many series as possible creates pressure for us, a feeling of missing out and anxiety about spoilers, and even so, in a month they will already be talking about other series.

So fortunately (or unfortunately) in 2022 there was quite a bit of good content to enjoy.

The scene

: The scene that cracked the mystery of who died in the second season of "The White Lotus" lived up to expectations.

It is customary for series to present mass murder to the viewers in a visual and violent way, and usually critically, but here - the shooting scene on the yacht, which was presented from an anxious angle, created a minimal, funny and original moment, which ended in an impressive climax: a stupid death by falling, which corresponded with the very stupid character of Tanya (g 'Nipper Coolidge').

The villain

: John Paul, the abusive man everyone wished dead in the drama "Bad Sisters" (Apple TV), was built from elements that represent contemporary villains.

A gaslighting artist and master of manipulation, who delights in evil.

An uncomplicated villain, but a maniac with receipts.

Homelander, the powerful villain of "The Sons" (Amazon), also broke through the moral barriers in the third season, and admitted that extremism only strengthens his position.

A true metaphor for the reality of our lives.

Gourmet

: Episode 7 of "The Bear" (Disney+) is made of 18 minutes of claustrophobic and intense one-shot, which squeezes in the catastrophe that is the "world of cooking and restaurants" in its embodiment.

This means, an entire episode shot in one take and with one camera.

A lesson in an original work.

The dance

: As expected, at the prom of the school for weirdos, it was Wednesday who stole the show.

The black dress, the indifference and the stupid dance in the center of the square are a mix of what made the youth series "Wednesday" (Netflix) a dizzying success.

With an infectious song and a robotic, strange, unusual and sensual choreography - TikTok fell in love with dance, and from there the Addams family's comeback was complete.

A broken heart

: It is impossible not to feel compassion for the characters of "It's going to hurt" - doctors, nurses, interns who are barely keeping the health system and themselves alive.

A series as sharp as a surgeon's knife, which highlights the effect of staff attrition in the public system.

It takes place in England, but is very relevant to Israel.

Trash to the face:

Netflix and Harry and Meghan, against the royal family and the tabloids.

This is not a slogan - but a real fight, the first act of which we experienced through the incriminating docu-series filmed by the couple and which broke viewership records.

The queen is dead, long live the new king - his Netflix majesty.

Harry and Meghan.

The song

: Since television sanctifies the visuals, it is difficult to explain the power of the sound in the package.

"Running Up That Hill" is an excellent example of how the correct use of a song can increase the viewing experience, and even revitalize the song.

"The world has gone mad," said singer Kate Bush after Season 4 of "Stranger Things" (Netflix) propelled the hit to the top of the global charts - 37 years after it was recorded.

The director

: You won't believe it, but actually the absurd actor Ben Stiller is signed as producer and director of the tense and mind-blowing psychological drama "Detachment" (Apple TV), which was the best series of the year.
