A pile-up involving hundreds of vehicles and one fatality broke out in central China on Wednesday.
Dense fog was to blame for the collision of around 200 vehicles, the state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing local authorities.
The fog appeared suddenly.
Aerial photos of the highway near Zhengzhou in Henan province show cars, vans and trucks jammed in thick fog on the affected stretch of highway.
Cars and trucks can be seen wedged together and stacked on top of each other in pictures and videos posted to social media.
Some also show the dense fog and the crash of approaching cars can be heard.
"It is frightening.
There are so many people here, I don't think we can get off the bridge," says one person in a video.
Many of the injured were trapped in their vehicles, with the fire department dispatching 11 fire engines and 66 rescue workers, state media reported.
The police closed the bridge over the Yellow River to all traffic.
According to the weather service, visibility on Wednesday morning was less than 500 meters in many areas, at times it was not more than 200 meters.
