(ANSA) - MONZA, DECEMBER 29 - Two technicians of the International Academy of Rhythmic Gymnastics of Desio (Monza) have been entered in the register of suspects by the Monza Public Prosecutor's Office, for ill-treatment for alleged vexatious behavior and psychological abuse against some young athletes, all under the age of 18 time of events.
This was announced by the Public Prosecutor Claudio Gittardi.
The investigations, starting from the testimonies of the very young sportswomen, are aimed at ascertaining impositions and prohibitions relating to the consumption of food and drink, multiple checks of body weight and alleged humiliations suffered by the athletes for behaviors deemed inappropriate.
The scandal exploded at the end of October, with the complaints of some former athletes.
On 14 November last, two former gymnasts from the rhythmic academy of Desio (Monza) were heard in the prosecutor's office for "summary information" and, on that occasion, they reiterated what had already come out in the media on the harassment suffered during their stay in the gymnastics school.
According to what emerged, the girls described in detail the context in which the abuses allegedly occurred, in particular humiliations for their physical appearance and exaggerated weight control, the duration and recurrence of abuses over time and who committed them.
They spoke of a system of strict rules linked to competitive sports, of national and international importance.
The Monza public prosecutor's office has therefore entered two coaches, responsible for both the structure and the technical management of the athletes, in the register of suspects on charges of ill-treatment.
