Thanks to the drop in the wholesale prices of energy products and the government's interventions on bills contained in the Budget law, for the first quarter of 2023 the reference price of electricity for the typical protected family is reduced by 19.5% compared to the previous quarter.

This was announced in a press release by Arera, the public agency that fixes energy tariffs on protected markets.

"Forward electricity prices have moved downwards", explains Arera, due to the "level of European gas storages which stood at over 80% of available capacity at the end of the year" and the "prices futures that indicate less tense conditions in the first quarter of 2023 compared to expectations in early October 2022 and to prices formed in December".

Already in the fourth quarter of 2022, based on preliminary data, the single national price of electricity (Pun) was down by approximately 48% compared to the very high levels of the third quarter of 2022: 246 euros per megawatt hour against 472 €/MWh on a quarterly average.

Based on the provisions of the "Budget law", the Arera also for the first quarter of 2023 has zeroed the general system costs for the electricity sector for all domestic and non-domestic customers with available power up to 16.5 kW, and for gas to the generality of users.

The so-called "nuclear charges" starting from 2023 will be supported directly by the State Budget and will no longer be included in the bill.

The application of the negative UG2 component was also confirmed to benefit gas consumption up to 5,000 sm3/year.

Interventions that go hand in hand with the confirmation of the reduction of VAT on gas to 5%.

As required by the Budget law, the range of beneficiaries admitted to social bonuses will also be expanded for the first quarter of 2023.

The ISEE level necessary to use it rises from 12,000 to 15,000 euros, up to 20,000 euros for large families).

The expenditure on the electricity bill for the typical family in the rolling year (between 1/0 April 2022 and 31 March 2023) will be around 1,374 euros, +67% compared to the equivalent 12 months of the previous year (1/ or April 2021- March 31, 2022).
