This soda secret has Tiktok viewers shocked and it's all because of a British doctor who went viral on social media revealing that diet drink cocktails make us drunk much faster than ones full of sugar.

"Why does drinking Diet Coke with alcohol get you drunk faster than regular Coke?"

Dr. Karan Raj asks at the beginning of his Tiktok video that received 1.2 million views and a lot of buzz among drinkers. The doctor explained: "It has nothing to do with the diet cocktail, but it has more to do with the fact that the sugar in regular Coke causes the stomach to empty more slowly into the small intestine, which slows the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream.

It's the same principle because of which you get drunk faster on an empty stomach - because there is nothing to slow down the alcohol."

Raj's explanatory video was edited against the background of photos of the tiktoker Lauryn Powell - who decided to put the doctor's claim to the test.

In her video she decided to drink whiskey with coke on two different days.

On the first day, she drank four glasses of the fizzy drink with regular (and sugar-laden) Coke before taking a breath test 30 minutes later, receiving a blood alcohol reading of 0.061.

On the second day, Powell drank four shots of whiskey mixed with Diet Coke, and took the same breath test half an hour after her last drink.

This time she had a blood alcohol reading of 0.086, which confirmed what Dr. Raj said in his tiktok video

@lorynpowell How is this even possible?

I tested whiskey with Diet Coke and Coke on 2 separate days to see if that theory going around is true.

Viewers reacted with excitement to the information, with many saying they would use it to get drunk faster during the holiday season.

"It's pretty cool... there are so many possibilities to take advantage of this knowledge," wrote one of them, and another enthusiastically concluded: "From now on, we only drink Diet Coke when we go out!".
