Just in time for the holidays, director Rian Johnson has put a wonderful murder-mystery gift under the tree for Netflix patrons, namely the event film Glass Onion aka Knives Out 2.
With “Knives Out” in 2019, director Rian Johnson (“Star Wars: Episode VIII”, “Looper”) succeeded in what Kenneth Branagh had actually tried to do with his Agatha Christie remakes, namely the revival of the murder mystery genre for the Netflix generation.
"Knives Out 1" grossed a whopping $313 million at the worldwide box office, which was a tremendous success.
In addition, the feat of tailoring the long-time 007 star Daniel Craig a completely new signature role on the body, namely that of the gallant super detective Benoit Blanc (who is now the better Hercule Poirot).
For "Knives Out 2" - or as the film is now officially called: "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" - Janelle Monae ("Hidden Figures"), Edward Norton ("Fight Club"), Dave Bautista ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Kate Hudson ("Bride Wars"), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision) and Leslie Odom Jr. ("Hamilton") as well as a few well-known surprise guests, a first-class ensemble is again drummed together, which this time gathers on a dream island ( the perfect setting for a production in the midst of the pandemic).
