There were 183 votes in favour, 116 no, one abstention.
Fontana announced that he would immediately put the decree to the vote "having ascertained the number of interventions and acknowledging the impossibility of a shared timetable on the conclusion of the examination of the decree due today. As previously announced, considering that all the phases of the procedure have carried out and all the groups have given an explanation of vote, I am forced in the exercise of my responsibilities to immediately put the decree-law to the vote in order to ensure that the conversion takes place within the constitutional deadlines".
The "guillotine" is the traumatic regulatory expedient on the basis of which the presidency of the Chamber can decide to put a decree-law to the vote when it is about to expire even if the ordinary examination has not yet been completed:
it is the second time to happen in republican history.
The first (and so far only) "guillotine" was put by Laura Boldrini, then president of the Chamber, on 29 January 2014 on the IMU-Bank of Italy decree law.
