Storing butter: It doesn't need to be in the fridge

Butter is needed for many dishes and it is particularly useful as a spread if it can be spread.
It doesn't always have to be stored in the fridge.
Who does not know it - you want to quickly prepare a sandwich, but the butter from the fridge is like a block of ice and cannot be spread on the bread without destroying it.
But does butter have to be stored in the fridge at all?

Spreadable butter from the supermarket usually has unnecessary additives such as palm or rapeseed oil.
If you usually use butter within a week or two, you don't have to store it in the fridge.
Especially if your kitchen has a temperature below 20 degrees, the butter can safely be stored there for one to two weeks.
If in doubt, according to the
consumer
advice center, you should do the sensory check, which can also be used if the butter has already passed its sell-by date.

Use all your senses to examine the butter: what does the butter look like, what does it smell like and what does it taste like?
The butter looks, smells and tastes typical of butter: According to the

advice center, that is no reason to throw it away.
Be careful, however, if the butter has a dark yellow color, smells rancid or tastes abnormal.
When exposed to oxygen, bacteria or light, butter can decompose and harmful decomposition products can form.

If the temperature in your kitchen is above 21 degrees Celsius and you do not use butter within a few days, it is advisable to store it in the butter compartment or on the top shelf of the refrigerator.
You can also freeze butter with confidence.
