(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 31 - At least one person has died and several others have been injured following a series of airstrikes launched by Russian forces across Ukraine, including the capital Kiev.

This was stated by the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, writes the Guardian, specifying that one person died in the Solomyansk district.

In Solomyan, in the southwest of the city, at least three women were taken to hospital.

A hotel and a house were hit by missiles, according to the deputy head of the Ukrainian president, Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

Ten explosions were reportedly heard in the first barrage of attacks.

Klitschko said other attacks hit Pechersk and Holosiivsk neighborhoods in the central and western part of the city.

Many areas preemptively cut off electricity before missiles hit the country after a lunchtime alert was raised.

Other targeted areas include the cities of Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv oblast, writes the Kyiv Independent.
