(ANSA) - NEW YORK, DECEMBER 30 - Barbara Walters, the star of the US small screen who was a long time anchor of ABC, has died at the age of 93.
ABC itself reports it.
Walters joined ABC News in 1976 and became the first female anchor on an evening news program.
Walters spent 50 years in front of the camera, until he was 84 years old.
In his career, the American icon has interviewed the major celebrities: all the US presidents from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama have answered his questions, but also the shah of Iran, Muammar Gaddafi and Fidel Castro.
His rise paved the way for other successful anchors.
She took her first steps at NBC, then in 1976 she landed at ABC, making her headlines as a 'million dollar baby' for her five-year, five-million-dollar contract.
