Firecrackers/New Year's Eve worldwide: Pyroshow and attacks on emergency services

Many people in Germany celebrated the turn of the year with colorful fireworks like the one here in Berlin.

After the pandemic-related sales bans of previous years, there was again a lot of banging, detonating and celebrating across the country:

In Berlin, the New Year's Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate was significantly smaller than in previous years due to limited ticket sales.

In other areas of the capital there were pyro attacks on the police and fire brigade.

Several officers were injured and emergency vehicles damaged.

Videos of the Pyro excesses are circulating on Twitter.

The fire brigade was surprised "by the mass and intensity of the attacks on the emergency services".

As of 2 p.m. German time, more than a million people had already welcomed the New Year in Sydney.

A spectacular firework display was set off in the Australian metropolis at midnight.

Fireworks lit up the sky near the Statue of Liberty in New York City.

The London Eye – here, too, the big New Year's Eve fireworks were ignited for the first time after the pandemic.

The Ukrainian capital Kyiv experienced a special New Year's Eve.

On Sofia Square, people came together before the curfew began and celebrated - as far as is possible in these times.

Russia continued airstrikes on Ukraine on New Year's Eve.

About half an hour
