This morning (Sunday, 1.1.2023) the Minister of Construction and Housing, MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, officially took office. The ceremony was attended by the outgoing Minister of Construction and Housing Ze'ev Elkin, Director General of the Ministry of Construction and Housing Mr. Aviad Friedman, Director General of the Israel Land Authority Mr. Yanki Quint, the CEO of the Urban Renewal Authority, Mr. Elazar Bamberger, the directors of the government companies and the directors of the Ministry of Construction and Housing.

In his words, the incoming Minister of Construction and Housing, Yitzhak Goldknopf, referred to the unforgettable statement that caused a stir even before he took office: "Some time ago, I participated in a conference and addressed the housing crisis. I mentioned the young people who live in parking lots and warehouses, as can be seen in many neighborhoods with ultra-Orthodox concentrations, and I talked about couples who live in housing units below ground level. At that conference, when I referred to the fact that I come to the position without prejudice, I said that 'I am not familiar with the housing crisis.' I pray and hope that with God's help and with hard work and joint efforts, we will all be able to say at the end of the term, 'We don't know the housing crisis'..."

Furthermore, at the ministerial exchange ceremony, Goldknopf addressed the claims of his critics, according to which he would give priority to construction in the ultra-orthodox sector: "We have a special duty to veterans. It is unacceptable that those who dedicate their best years to the security of the citizens of Israel, will stand as poor at the door when they come to build a house. We have a duty To the workers of the Torah, the poor who are satisfied with little and ask for a roof over their heads."

"We have a duty to all young couples from all sectors - regardless of religion, race or outlook. We will not be sectoral or non-sector. The housing problem is common to everyone and we will work with God's help to help everyone."

During the ceremony, the outgoing Minister of Construction and Housing, Ze'ev Elkin, called on the incoming Minister to continue the discount apartment plan, and at the same pace as the previous government: "There is no reason for the State of Israel to get rich from the increase in land prices, which stems from the lack of apartments for which it is, at least partially, responsible. The planning is the State, Marketing is the state, the number of foreign workers in the construction field is the state, building permits are also the state. Therefore, it cannot be that when there is a shortage, the state that bears the main responsibility is also the one that will benefit financially from an increase in land prices."

"Therefore, we insisted that this money must return to the public, to the young couples, we insisted and won the battles surrounding the budget. Indeed, today the contractors approach tenders both in the center of the country and in the periphery, and a large percentage of the apartments go to apartments at a significant discount at the expense of the state for the young couples. A little less than 30,000 families received this right this year, and from the projects already started for next year, there should be 45,000 such apartments in 2023. It is very important that this program for all communities and all sectors continue."

The director general of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Aviad Friedman, greeted the incoming minister: "We will open with our greeting to the incoming minister, honorable incoming minister MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, I am convinced and confident that all the people of this ministry will welcome you and your team with open arms. We all want your success. You receive Next to you is a professional, dedicated office that has a position and initiative. I thank all our partners from RMI, the Governmental Authority for Urban Renewal, the government companies and many more." Furthermore

, Friedman said that "these days we are in the midst of registering for the fourth lottery of the 'Discount Apartment' program ', in the end about 6,500 additional eligible people will join the 21,000 eligible people who have already won this year, and will have the opportunity to purchase an apartment at a significant discount from the state.

I know that there is still a lot of work, but I can safely say that the processes we have done and promoted in the recent period will bear fruit in the near future."
