(ANSA) - ROME, 01 JAN - Alarm sirens and explosions have welcomed the new year in Kiev.
Shortly after midnight Russia launched a massive attack on the Ukrainian capital.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down 32 Russian air targets over the city, the press service of the capital's Military Administration announced on Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.
"According to preliminary information, the Air Defense Forces destroyed 32 enemy air targets," the Administration wrote, noting that the Russian air raid warning lasted more than four hours.
Kiev did not specify the type of targets shot down, but according to local media, Russia attacked last night with missiles and drones.
In all, 45 Iranian-made Shahed-131/136 dronikamikaze launched by Russian forces on the country were destroyed by anti-aircraft fire.
