A cat that likes to roam but always returns to its owner comes home one day with a scar.
As it turned out, the animal was castrated.
Villach – Next to dogs, cats are probably the most popular pets of all.
A study found that house tigers are even more loyal than "man's best friends".
A particularly touching story showed just how loyal cats can be to their owners.
A 93-year-old woman died at the same moment as her cat, before dying the two were of one heart and soul for 23 years.
Martin Kobau from Villach in Austria also has two faithful cats.
The cats "Your" and "Mine" are siblings and particularly like to roam the 1,500 square meter garden.
However, the two animals always return to their owner.
One day, however, one of the cats, "Meine," came back with a shaved tummy and a fresh scar, Austria's
Kleine Zeitung
reports .
As it turned out, Martin Kobau's pet had been neutered.
In Ditzingen (Baden-Württemberg), release cats have had to be microchipped and castrated since 2021.
Shock for owners: cat comes back with a shaved belly and a fresh scar
A castration of cats is actually only carried out by veterinarians and is intended to prevent the animals from breeding further.
This happens, for example, when a house cat has contact with other animals through cats in the neighborhood and the owners do not want offspring, or with stray cats.
According to the report, Martin Kobau's two animals are only on his property and they don't look like stray street cats at all.
"Our cats have the big garden, it's their territory, where they go," Martin Kobau explained to the
Kleine Zeitung
.
"It's normal for us now."
Anything but normal is a change that the owner noticed in "Mine" one day.
"The animal was shaved on the stomach," he said.
"We thought it was eczema, the other cat already had that." The next day, however, the cat's stomach was completely shaved and "mine" had a fresh scar.
"It's a mess, we wanted the cat to throw once," said Kobau.
"Who would do something mean like that and have someone else's cat neutered?" Although he was angry about his cat's neutering for good reason, the owner says he does not want to press charges.
Neutering a stranger's cat?
Owner wants answers
Martin Kabau does want to find out who caught his cat on a stroll through his own garden and had it neutered.
According to the German Animal Welfare Act, it is a criminal offense to inflict pain on animals without good reason - which includes castration.
A good reason is to prevent unwanted reproduction, but a veterinarian must decide that.
According to the
Kleine Zeitung
, there has been a free neutering campaign for stray cats in the Austrian province of Carinthia for several years.
If you can prove to the municipality that the animal is a stray, you will receive a voucher for the veterinarian.
Because such an intervention cannot be carried out by a layman, the castration of "mine" - which took place without the consent and against the wishes of its owner - must have been financed by an unknown person.
Depending on the doctor and clinic, such an operation including consultation and anesthesia can cost around 150 euros.
However, the doctor also records the data of the alleged owner, which makes it difficult to track exactly whether the animal is actually the owner.
In Baden-Württemberg, too, more and more municipalities are introducing a cat protection ordinance with mandatory castration.
