(ANSA) - ROME, 02 JAN - A very rich New Year's weekend at the Italian box office with Avatar 2 as the protagonist, with takings of 5 million, and Il grande giorno, the new film by Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, well over one and a half million.
As expected, the weekend that ferried into 2023 - despite the reduced collections on Saturday 31 December - recorded important data: in four days the total collection was 10.3 million euros, with 1.3 million tickets sold (source Cinetel).
50% of the total takings were clearly monopolized by Avatar: La via dell'acqua, which brought home 5.03 million euros in the four days, with 1.5 million collected only on 1 January, which fell on Sunday.
Overall, James Cameron's blockbuster has raised 29.1 million euros so far, and between today and tomorrow it could exceed the final 30.3 million euros of Avangers: Endgame.
Second position for Il grande giorno, which collected 1.6 million euros in four days, thus rising to 4.8 million euros: on New Year's Eve it fell to third place with half a million euros.
Third position over the weekend for The eight mountains, which collects 888 thousand euros and rises to 2.24 million.
Fourth position instead for Three too many: Fabio de Luigi's comedy was released on Sunday, when it collected 707 thousand euros, debuting in second place, above The big day.
The film by the award-winning firm Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo earned another €1.64m in second place, for a total of €4.85m.
In fifth place Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, which collected another 579,000 euros (total 4.16 million).
