At the request of the Italian National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) team aboard the Geo Barents last night rescued 41 people in distress in international waters off Libya.
This was reported by the NGO, which is now waiting to receive further instructions from the Italian authorities.
This is the first rescue that takes place after the approval of the decree on NGOs.
According to MSF, the boat of migrants had capsized and the 41 survivors, including two women, are now on board the Geo Barents and assisted by the MSF team.
