At a ceremony held this evening (Monday) in Tel Aviv, Orit Ilan was announced as the winner of the Lottery's Sapir Literature Prize for 2022 for her book "Sister to the Pleiades".
Ilan will receive a grant of NIS 180,000.
In addition, her book will be translated and published in the Arabic language and in another language of her choice.
From the judges' reasons for the winning book: "In her book, Orit Ilan gives a faithful testimony of the Israeli face of this era; she creates wonders in the Hebrew language, when she comes up time and time again to describe the most subtle fluctuations of the mind and the soul, with the precision and creativity that we know mainly from rare moments of Poetry. This is a book that deals with failure and courage and accompanies its heroes with great empathy as they move from station to station in their lives, and don't always understand where they got to and how."
The debut book award was won by Keren Schwetz for her book "White Elephants".
She will receive a grant of NIS 75,000.
