The most expensive German series ever produced has no future at Netflix.
After just one season, 1899, the new mystery drama from the Dark makers, was declared over by the streaming service, which was eager to withdraw.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that '1899' will not be extended," said the sad news from Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese via Instagram.
"We would have loved to have completed this incredible journey with a second and third season, just like 'Dark' did (here for a review of the first season from 1899).
But sometimes things don't go as planned.
So life is.
We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there.
But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this wonderful adventure.
We love you.
We'll never forget that."
So the "Dark" duo are trying not to sound upset about the unexpected cancellation of their new work, 1899. Fans are less keen on their anger at Netflix, especially as the streaming service has earned a bad reputation in recent years , to sell too many in-house productions too early.
