Families spent 1,866 euros in 2022. For customers on the protected raw material market at 116.6 euro/MWh. Arera, in one year the bill increased by 64.8%. Codacons alarm: the government adopts urgent measures (ANSA)

Increase the gas bill for families still on the protected market.

On the basis of the average performance of the Italian wholesale market in the month of December and for consumption in the same month,

a 23.3% increase in bills was recorded for the standard family in protection compared to November

.

The Arera communicates this, explaining that

in December the price of the gas raw material for customers with contracts in protected conditions is set at 116.6 euros/MWh,

equal to the average of the prices recorded daily throughout the month.

In the first weeks of December, gas prices even reached peaks of around 135 euro/MWh.

If the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment had used the old method of updating the gas protection (quarterly ex-ante instead of monthly ex-post) during the entire last quarter of 2022 a component of the gas price would have been applied to cover natural gas procurement costs (Cmemm) of over 240 euros per megawatt hour.

The method adopted by the Authority instead made it possible to apply a Cmemm of 78 euro/MWh in October and 91.2 euro/MWh in November, explains the Authority.

The Arera also recalls that as required by the Budget Law, for the first quarter of 2023 it has already eliminated the general system charges also for gas.

The gas price component covering procurement costs, applied to customers still under protection, the Authority points out, is updated by Arera as a monthly average of the price on the Italian wholesale market (PSV day ahead) and published within first two working days of the month following the reference month.

Gas: 83.5% of inventories in Europe, 82.5% in Italy - Economy

European gas storages rose to 934.68 Twh, equal to 83.5 of the filling capacity and with a positive trend of 0.15%.

This is what emerges from the data of the Gie-Agsi platform.

The cost of gas for the typical household (which has an average annual consumption of 1,400 cubic meters) in the year between January and December 2022 is around 1,866 euros,

up 64.8% compared to the same period in 2021. This makes it noted Arera by observing that this effect occurs despite the savings obtained with the new method of ex post monthly updating introduced by the Authority last July.

With the gas tariff update announced today, "Arera fully confirms

the alarm on bills launched in recent days by Codacons,

when the association spoke of inevitable price increases for gas. An increase in tariffs of 23 3% is worse than expected and is equivalent to an average gas bill that rises to

2,113 euros per year per family

".

This was stated by Codacons, explaining that "compared to the same period of 2021, in fact, gas prices are 55.8% higher in December, with an increase in spending equal to +757 euros per core compared to the tariffs in force in December of 2021".

"A sting that confirms the alarm on prices and tariffs" launched yesterday by Codacons, and which - adds the organization in defense of consumers - "must lead the government to adopt urgent measures to

save the pockets of Italians, starting from the extension of the cut in excise duties on fuel and the sterilization of VAT on food and basic necessities".
