Composer and music producer Ralph Siegel spent the turn of the year in the hospital due to an overdose of medication.
He takes morphine and cortisone because of a triple herniated disc, the 77-year-old told the "Bild" newspaper.
Because he wanted to be fit for his New Year's Eve party, he took his morning and evening medicines at the same time that day, the report said.
"I passed out like a wet sack," says Siegel.
When he fell, he hit his forehead on a pipe.
"Don't spoil New Year's Eve"
Because of his hospital stay, the party at his house took place without him.
»I had to stay in the clinic for observation, but didn't want to spoil my friends' New Year's Eve.
We still had contact via cell phone video," Siegel said, according to the report.
He was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
Siegel composed numerous well-known hits, including "A Bit Peace", with which Nicole won the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany in 1982.
Rex Gildo, Peter Alexander, Ireen Sheer, Katja Ebstein, Lena Valaitis and Dschingis Khan also sang seal productions that made it into the German top ten.
