(ANSA) - ROME, 03 JAN - The 2023 winter sales (already started in Sicily and Basilicata and from 5 January throughout Italy) will be marked by uncertainty.
This was stated by Codacons, which today releases its estimates on the trend of seasonal discounts.
"Never before have sales started under the banner of doubts and uncertainty on the part of families - explains the president Carlo Rienzi - Expensive bills and skyrocketing inflation have eroded the purchasing power of citizens, and will push a slice of the population to give up non-essential purchases. Many consumers then took advantage of Black Friday last November to buy clothing and accessories at discounted prices".
"This year there is great prudence on the part of citizens in terms of spending to be allocated to sales, and the number of consumers who will decide at the last minute whether or not to take advantage of the discounts is growing - continues Rienzi - Based on our estimates, the tour of winter sales business this year will amount to between 4 and 4.5 billion euros, a clear decrease compared to pre-Covid spending levels".
