January in Italy with minimums of 10 degrees and maximums above 20 degrees: the climate of our country resembles that of Egypt in winter with night values about 9 degrees higher than the average.

Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of the website www.iLMeteo.it, confirms that the anomalous heat is the master not only of Italy but of all central-northern Europe: the African anticyclone which dominates and will dominate the scene throughout this week is responsible.

For this winter, the seasonal and sub-seasonal forecasts predict a quarter in general above the thermal average, with a slight possibility of a slight drop in temperatures from mid-month and with some colder drafts in March.

The cold in Italy will not arrive before 10 days, also because the frost is not present even in the polar areas.

Despite the heat, light rains could still affect Liguria, south-eastern Piedmont and the flat and pre-Alpine sectors of Lombardy.

A general drop in high pressure is expected from Sunday 8 with the arrival of widespread rains.

The greater atmospheric stability due to the presence of an anticyclonic area unfortunately also affects the air quality by favoring the accumulation of smog in the lower layers, with a consequent worsening of the air quality in particular around large urban areas such as Milan, Turin, Bologna and Rome.

In fact, "very bad" conditions are already being recorded with repercussions, says the expert, also on health: "The risk of diseases of the upper respiratory tract should not be underestimated, especially in fragile people such as children and the elderly".
