Zaia: 'I confirm what was said in the wiretaps'

The Venetian governor intervenes after the transmission of the Report on the clash with Crisanti for the management of the Covid emergency in Veneto. The virologist: "Here is the true face of power" (ANSA)

The Venetian governor Luca Zaia breaks the silence after the Report broadcast on Tuesday evening which released the transcripts of some wiretaps of the governor himself while he was talking on the phone with the director of Azienda Zero, Roberto Toniolo.

Zaia discusses the position of the virologist Andrea Crisanti, now a senator of the Democratic Party, with whom a tough battle has been going on for years.

The virologist himself resigned yesterday from the University of Padua after the diffusion of wiretaps, attacking Zaia.

Zaia: "I am responsible for what I say, and I confirm it"

"I discovered there are four phone calls from me, I wasn't intercepted, they told me they couldn't be published, but it doesn't matter, I'm responsible for what I say, and I confirm it. but the extraordinary thing is that I speak in Veneto and I'm all in Italian".

This was revealed tonight by Luca Zaia, regarding the interceptions disseminated by Report, speaking at a meeting in Cortina D'Ampezzo.

"It's not a joke - he added - because the tones and modalities are different. Beyond the jokes, I tell my manager that this story that we denounced Crisanti has been going on for a while. It's not true". and the academic positions taken against an alleged censorship of academic research, Zaia underlined: "I discover that my parents, without confronting each other,

they make a few lines and say to the Academic Senate 'nothing is true', and the controversy disappears.

I've had weeks of controversy, insults, they stop you from all sides... we haven't reported anyone, we haven't even made complaints, I'm not playing with words.

Simply from the first day of Covid, February 21, 2020, on the one hand we have tried to 'crystallize' the story of a story that we did not know what course it would have, and above all what results it would have.

I immediately told my 'prosecutors notified on a regular basis the story of what we are doing', because it's all a field test.

We had had bare hands.

I think we sent stacks of cards to the prosecutor's office.

Everything that came out, I don't know, a dispute,

my technicians proceeded to take the statements, argue scientifically and send them to the Public Prosecutor's Office". Regarding the interception with the director of Azienda Zero Roberto Toniolo, Zaia specified that "I was speaking not with a hitman but with the general manager, who depends on me, and I ask him why send a letter when we go to the 'I see', because they have been calling me a liar for weeks.

I - he noted in conclusion - stay there looking like a liar for weeks ".

Zaia: Crisanti remains a valid professional, never denied anything

Professor Crisanti "have never been denied answers, investments, and even less, to date, even if not what happened to the scientific committee for Covid, no one has ever replaced Professor Crisanti".

This was stated by the governor of Veneto Luca Zaia, speaking in Cortina at a meeting of the review "A mountain of books".

"Remain a valid professional - added Zaia referring to the microbiologist - I have nothing to say, I'm sorry. But, put yourself in my shoes: it was August 2020, I was on vacation, a journalist called me and said: 'the professor distributed all the copies of the whatsapps you sent him'.... These were my days.".

"I speak with pain about this story - added Zaia -, I tried to the end to team up,

after that the situation was of continuous public statements, where I found myself with executives attacked, all the chief microbiologists who found themselves attacked.

I also had to make a choice.

These are my days, and they will go on and on,” she concluded.

Zaia: "Never said anything about Crisanti, I tried to team up. Never met before Covid, we financed Vo tampons"

On the relationship with Prof.

Andrea Crisanti "if you search for my declarations you will not find any in two and a half years, you will have tried in every way, but I have never declared anything".

This was underlined by Luca Zaia, speaking tonight at a meeting in Cortina D'Ampezzo.

"I must say - continued Zaia - that I have always believed in teamwork and I have always carried it forward. In the team we have other academics, I could make an infinite list of academics who are all in the Covid regional scientific technical committee together with professor Chrysanthemums".

On the relationship with the microbiologist, Zaia said that "I met him after February 21, 2020. Unfortunately, Mr. Trevisan from Vo' first died. That evening, alone, I decided to close Vo', from make 3,500 swabs.

It's becoming an urban legend.

This professor, whom I didn't know and had never heard from or seen, calls me, and in my opinion with an intuition he tells me that I have done something that doesn't exist in the scientific world.

'You, he tells me, swabbed 3,500 inhabitants, closed them, and then created an enclave where we can study the virus.

He finances me, I think it was 300,000 euros, the round of tampons at the end of the quarantine, and let's see what happened '.

In the end we saw that 83 positives had become negative, we saw that there was negativization.

Then a whole series of other reflections that are the responsibility of the professor and the academic world.

But I made the tampons,

Crisanti: "Here is the true face of power"

"It is something that leaves you speechless. Seeing the true face of power and how it is exercised is horrifying".

Professor Andrea Crisanti, current senator of the Democratic Party, said this to ANSA today after seeing the Report broadcast last night on Rai Tre on the management of the Covid emergency in Veneto and on the interceptions of the investigation launched by the Padua prosecutor's office.

"I think it should horrify all the Venetians - he adds - and perhaps not only them".

Crisanti was struck by the sentences allegedly contained in the wiretaps, "with the intention to hurt. This is the real problem".
