We have written many times about harmful health trends emerging on TikTok, but the current one breaks records of illogicality.

In recent days, viral videos have been published online suggesting that those who suffer from a blocked nose (and those who do not suffer from it this season) shove cloves of garlic into their nostrils.

In the videos (which you can see right here) young people are seen sticking cloves of garlic into their noses and leaving them there for about half an hour, then when they take them out - rivers of snot come out of their noses (and yes, it's as disgusting as it sounds)

The logic behind this trend is that garlic makes it easier Congestion and removes the accumulation of mucus, but while garlic really has a lot of health benefits, for stuffing food products into different holes in the body - there really isn't.

This strange trend has become so viral that the Ministry of Health issued a warning today that it "recommends not to put any in the nose - under no circumstances".

And they also listed the reasons:

1. There is a good chance that the tooth will get stuck in your nose - even a tiny piece of garlic stuck in the nostril can have many consequences, including blockage of the sinuses and even infection.

2. The oils in raw garlic may irritate, lead to a rash inside the nose, crack the skin and even lead to nosebleeds.

3. The garlic may damage part of the septum, which has quite a few blood vessels, and cause trauma.

So what can be done to relieve nasal congestion?

A cold is also a type of upper respiratory infection.

It is not a single disease, and in fact there are about 200 types of viruses that cause it, so there is really no specific treatment for the virus.

A cold usually lasts between three and seven days in adults, and an average of ten days in children.

However, sometimes the symptoms can last up to two weeks.

When the symptoms do not go away or when they get worse, it could be complications of a cold.

These can include pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis and ear infections in children.

Therefore, if the cold does not go away, you should contact the family doctor.

And a few more things to know about colds:

The big fight: Is this what happens in your body when you catch

a cold? Buds of a cold?

This is how you stop it before it gets worse

The Ministry of Health mentions that a cold is usually a viral infection that goes away on its own, but the best way to treat it is to rest, make sure to drink a lot and sometimes use saline rinses.

Beyond that, you can help your body with a boost of vitamin C with these fruits and vegetables, or choose foods that will benefit your body.

Among these foods, by the way, there is also garlic - but not in the nose, of course.

In a study published in the journal The Cochrane Library, it was found that adults who took a daily garlic supplement got sick 3 times less on average, than adults who took a placebo supplement.

Those taking the sham supplement suffered three times longer illnesses and had to take three times more sick days on average, compared to the garlic eating group.

The researchers estimated that the medicinal properties of garlic derive from a component called allicin, which blocks enzymes involved in both bacterial and viral infections.
