Fashion designer Yaron Minkovsky (58), one of Israel's top fashion designers, has already seen everything and done everything.

His distinguished list of dressers includes singers, actresses and models;

Galit Gutman, Sigal Shahmon, Hana Leslau, the singer Ilanit and more.

Dana International sewed a suit of flags to promote Eurovision 1995, Orna and Moshe Detz wore his clothes when they represented Israel with the song "Kaan" in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1991, and he met the late Ofra Haza when he worked at "Gotex" and in 1992 he dressed her in a spectacular dress from the collection " Jerusalem of Gold".

Even in the last decade, Minkowski continues to make waves, in his unique way.

In 2021, the "disposable" dress he designed was presented at the "Prom" exhibition at the Design Museum in Holon (curated by the historian and fashion researcher Yara Kider), a work that was made of silk, tulle and hundreds of packets of toilet paper.

"When you work for so many years in the field, you feel and know what is going to come in terms of trends."

Already at the beginning of his career, with the completion of his studies at Shankar in 1989, Minkowski won the award for the best young designer in Europe for 1989 in the category of evening dresses.

He worked for Gideon Oberzon, a member of the "Gotex" swimwear brand, designed evening dresses for fashion shows and the beauty queen competition, and from there he only continued to grow.

The clothes he creates straddle the seam between fashion and art, and as such they obey the haute couture discipline.

In almost every garment, Minkowski puts his personal stamp through handwork, or embroidery to be more precise.

How do you feel at this point in time about your return to the local fashion scene?

"I worked with the studio and the store for over three decades. A store is a very demanding and binding thing, and I decided at the end of 2019 to make a change in my life. I closed the store, but not the brand, which continued to operate in the studio at home and allowed me room to maneuver to make and create art without commitment to the opening hours of store. During the whole period I met clients at home and we made wonderful models in personal meetings. At the end of the period of uncertainty with the trade and events sector, I was pressured by the clients to reopen the store. Today there are almost no designers who create high-quality, creative clothes and also do personal tailoring as needed . I returned to the same building at the same address in Dizengoff, to the same point from which I took a time out, and I returned at Paul Gaz."

"I examine and research cultures and tribes, and am nourished in terms of inspiration from gypsies and tribal aesthetics."

What do you think of the current climate where veteran designers are reducing activity and customers are prioritizing fast and cheap fashion?

"In a world where everything becomes fast and without delaying gratification, the effect is also on high fashion. It is especially difficult to survive in Israel because there is no support, appreciation and government assistance. What does exist in countries like France that understand that fashion is part of a culture that must be preserved. The textile industry in Israel has been wiped out, the pride in Israeli fashion has already Not supported by media organizations that are financially fed by the global fashion giants."

The trip to Africa was for a family vacation, yet you returned from there with a fashion production.

"Every trip is used to create content and fashion and atmosphere photos for social networks.

To every exotic destination we travel to, we always take a suitcase with models that will be suitable for filming on location, and try to get the best out of working in the field.

It is also important to note that the members of the Maasai tribe who are photographed with Uri received compensation for the photographs."

"Nowadays there are almost no designers who create high-quality, creative clothes and who also do personal tailoring as needed."

Tell us about the inspiration and designs you photographed in Africa.

"I examine and research cultures and tribes, and I am inspired by colors and tribal aesthetics. It doesn't matter if it's Bedouin or Maasai tribes, everything inspires me. I collect and collect the fabrics all over the world. The orange galabiya is made of printed silk fabric, the sleeveless black dress with the gold circles The embroidered one is thread-embroidered black silk chiffon, and the other black dress is made of silk fabric and embroidered tulle with orange wooden beads. I made the embroidered fabric pants in an opal pattern in black and white, and the colored blouse is made of embroidered tulle fabric."

Who is Yaron Minkovsky's wife?

Can you describe her?

"The woman who wears Minkowski knows how to appreciate quality, quality tailoring, fabric and material. She is a woman who appreciates and is not afraid of different designs, or unique colors and textures."

Are you completely indifferent to the emerging trends sweeping the fashion world?

"When you work for so many years in the field, you feel and know what is going to come in terms of trends. I travel a lot around the world, and am updated and aware of all the exhibitions and cultural events that have an impact. As mentioned, I collect fabrics all over the world and at fabric exhibitions in Paris and Milan. The same fabrics are also bought by large and well-known fashion houses, just a language I have an advantage in that I'm small and my speed of reaction is quick, which sometimes creates a situation where I'm ahead of a trend."

Are you targeting the international market as well?

"The year 2023 is characterized by business development targeting North America, the USA and Canada.

In the past, I had a good experience and entry into the American market, only with dishonest business partners, which led me to reexamine my steps."

"Every trip is used to create content and fashion and atmosphere photos for social networks."
