Pregnancy tests indicate whether a baby has been conceived.

You jump on a certain hormone - also in men.

Here a test should even be able to show cancer.

A pregnancy test is pure thrill - in a positive or negative sense.

But he should not only be able to indicate whether offspring is on the way.

If it indicates pregnancy in men, this should indicate testicular cancer.

This conclusion was made public years ago when a Brit was diagnosed with testicular cancer after a positive pregnancy test.

According to Bunten, the 18-year-old followed the advice of the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit, which recommended the test.

Wolfgang Bühmann, spokesman for the professional association of German urologists, provides information on how reliably a positive pregnancy test can indicate testicular cancer.

How does a pregnancy test work?

If an egg has successfully implanted itself in the lining of the uterus, the pregnancy hormone beta-hCG can be detected in the blood or urine.

The hormone causes the further release of estrogens and progestins from the corpus luteum in the ovary, according to Techniker Krankenkasse.

Pregnancy is not the only source of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG or beta-hCG) release.

Some testicular and prostate tumors also produce this hormone.

Positive male pregnancy test – what does that mean?

If there is an increased concentration of beta-hCG in a man's blood, this could be an indication of pathological activity of testicular tissue, according to urologist Wolfgang Bühmann in an interview with

.

However, there are also tumors that do not produce hCG.

His conclusion: "A pregnancy test for self-diagnosis of testicular cancer is not useful".

A clear diagnosis can only be provided by a thorough examination by the doctor, which includes blood analysis and ultrasound, among other things.
