Knowing what the oven symbols mean can save you money in the long run.
Because the right program requires 20 percent less energy by comparison.
Whether it's home-baked bread, a casserole or healthy vegetables – we often reach for the oven, especially in winter.
Its residual heat also helps to keep the apartment warm.
So that this doesn't show up too clearly on the electricity bill, it's worth giving preference to one function.
At least if your own oven offers this option.

Save electricity with a specific oven program
The magic word here is: circulating air (symbol: fan).
A fan distributes the heated air evenly throughout the baking chamber.
One of the advantages is that you can put several trays in the oven at the same time in this way.
Another is that preheating is rarely necessary.
And quite incidentally, the function saves up to 20 percent electricity.
Why?
Due to the good heat distribution, the oven temperature can be set lower.
As a rule of thumb, simply subtract 20 degrees from the top/bottom heat.
Similar to radiators, every degree less is good for the wallet.

Convection – not suitable for all dishes
Not everything should be baked with the convection function.
On average, it removes more moisture from the food and is therefore particularly recommended for rolls and bread or your favorite pizza.
When it comes to fish or fruit cake, you should rather use top/bottom heat – or keep a close eye on the inside.
If it gets too brown or too dry, you can also protect the food with aluminum foil or a suitable lid.
