E-car becomes a rescuer in an emergency: During a widespread power failure, a Ford F-150 Lightning supplies an entire house with electricity for 44 hours.
Ottawa – After a massive snowstorm in southern Ontario, Canada, thousands of homes were without electricity for days in temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees.
However, a Ford F-150 Lightning owner used the battery in his electric car as an emergency power generator to supply his entire house with energy – for 44 hours.
The Canadian would have been armed against a blackout with a complete power failure for even longer: after almost two days, the car's battery level was still at 65 percent.

E-car drivers rave: “44 hours without electricity!
This baby saved us!”
The Canadian simply used the socket on his e-truck and laid cables in the house with extension cords.
On the social news website "Reddit", the man enthusiastically posted a photo of his "lifesaver" and enthused: "44 hours without electricity!
This baby saved us.” The proud e-car owner also wrote that he used the energy from his car's battery to power refrigerators, freezers, WiFi, televisions and lamps for almost two full days.
Power failure: Electric car supplies the entire household with energy – for 44 hours
In fact, the manufacturer Ford deliberately advertised the F-150 Lightning, which also shines in the car test with special features, with exactly this feature at its US market launch last year.
"Intelligent Backup Power, first used in the F-150 Lightning, gives you the ability to use bi-directional power technology to power your home during a power outage - be it a storm or a heatwave" , according to a press release.
Power from the battery: E-cars can supply households with electricity for more than three days
Because the powerful battery can not only supply its energy to the engine, but also to the grid, the Stromer is something like a mobile mini power plant.
Its sockets provide electricity as needed - wherever and whenever it is needed: when camping, on construction sites and also in emergency situations.
A normal US household should be able to be supplied with the 98 kWh of the small battery for three days, and even much longer with the 130 kWh of the XXL model.

Car battery as an emergency generator: Eleven days of electricity from the electric car after the hurricane
In the comments of the Reddit post, numerous Ford F-150 Lightning owners report situations in which their e-vehicle has also served as an emergency supplier.
One user reports that after Hurricane Fiona, he lived on the electricity in his electric car for a full eleven days.
Another describes how the vehicle powered his home for three days during a power outage in Lake Tahoe:

“One circuit kept the fridge and oven running, the other an 85” TV and a full 7.2 surround system as well as our Wi-Fi.
We even ended up using the in-car Wi-Fi hotspot as the cellphone towers were down and the truck was the only device getting a signal!
We even ran the dishwasher and garbage chute on several occasions, just for fun.” At the end of the impressive usage, the Ford pickup still had 20 percent battery life left.
Ford F-150 Lightning: Mini power plant only available in the USA for the time being
It is unclear whether and when the Ford F-150 Lightning, which Lego built from 320,740 bricks, will come to Germany.
However, one thing is certain: the car manufacturer Ford, whose CEO predicted that e-cars will be cheaper than ever, wants to convert its entire fleet in Europe to electric drives by 2030.
So the chances are not bad at all.
But first the group has to meet the demand in its own country.
And that could take a while with 200,000 pre-orders.
