The First Lady of the United States will have to undergo surgery next week for a small skin abnormality on her face.
Jill Biden's spokeswoman said in Washington on Wednesday that the "small lesion" was discovered over the right eye during a routine check for skin cancer screening.
The outpatient surgery will be performed next Wednesday at the Walter Reed Military Hospital near the US capital.
The tissue is removed and then analyzed.
At 71, Jill Biden is the oldest First Lady in the history of the United States, and her 80-year-old husband is the oldest US President in history.
Joe Biden's son Beau died of a brain tumor in 2015.
The US President has made reducing the death rate from cancer a priority of his presidency.
