ROME - From art photography, with Morath and Erwitt, to the poetic vision of the Japanese masters, up to the pictorial gesture of Perugino and Renoir and the surprising works of the Argentine Erlich for the first time in Europe: 2023 will also be a rich year of interesting exhibitions, between different styles and eras.


    VENICE - "Inge Morath. Photographing from Venice onwards" opens at the Palazzo Grimani Museum on 18 January, curated by Kurt Kaindle and Brigitte Blüml, with Valeria Finocchi.

The exhibition presents the reportage that the Austrian photographer made in the Lagoon, when the Magnum agency sent her to the city on behalf of the magazine L'Oeil: the itinerary brings together around 200 photographs (of which around 80 have never been exhibited) with a focus on Venice.


    ABANO TERME - "Vintage" is the title of the exhibition dedicated to Elliott Erwitt scheduled at the Villa Bassi Rathgeb Museum from 28 January to 11 June.

Curated by Marco Minuz, the exhibition brings together 154 vintage photographs, rarely exhibited to the public, and 30 iconic shots that touch on various themes, from racial integration to social changes, nudism, dogs, children and travel.


    PARMA - Over 50 works (editions and serigraphs, experiments on metal, fabrics and plastic as well as photographs and videos) from European and American collections make up "Roy Lichtenstein. Pop Variations", at Palazzo Tarasconi from 11 February to 18 June.

Curated by Gianni Mercurio, the exhibition traces Lichtenstein's entire artistic career starting from the 1960s,


    ROVIGO - "Pierre-Auguste Renoir: the dawn of a new classicism", curated by Paolo Bolpagni, will open to the public on 25 February at Palazzo Roverella.

Until 25 June, the project focuses on Renoir's production starting from the 1880s, which marked the beginning of a progressive departure from the impressionist experience: after a trip to Italy in 1881, for the painter it was in fact the beginning of a creative revolution towards a personal form of classicism.


    GENOA - Spring at Palazzo Ducale is accompanied by the monograph dedicated to Man Ray (from 4 March to 2 July), photographer but also painter, sculptor, avant-garde director and graphic designer.

The exhibition, curated by Walter Guadagnini and Giangavino Piazzola, chronologically and thematically explores the life and career of the


    TURIN - The Japanese universe, through a thematic itinerary divided into 9 sections, with over 300 masterpieces and some works never presented in Italy, can be admired in the exhibition "Utamaro, Hokusai, Hiroshige. Geishas, ​​samurai and the myths of Japan", hosted by the Turin Fine Arts Promoting Society from 23 February to 25 June.

On the itinerary 30 preparatory drawings, 24 landscape prints by Hiroshige, around twenty prints of 'flowers and birds' (kachōga), around forty prints of kabuki actors (yakushae), around forty of the so-called 'beautiful women' prints (bijinga ), about 30 prints and 20 books of an erotic nature (shunga), about twenty prints of warriors and heroes (mushae).


    PERUGIA - "The best master of Italy. Perugino in his time", curated by Marco Pierini and Veruska Picchiarelli, is scheduled at the National Gallery of Umbria from 4 March to 11 June.

Created on the occasion of the fifth centenary of the painter's death, the exhibition documents Perugino's role of artistic prominence in his time, through over 70 works, all prior to 1504, or at the time when he was at the height of his career.


    MILAN - The first major European exhibition of the Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich arrives at Palazzo Reale at the end of March: along the way, large installations with which the public can relate and play, becoming the work of art itself.


    Among the works exhibited also "Batiment", in which people simulate climbing a large building, or "Swimming Pool" in which one has the sensation of moving underwater.

In 2023 Palazzo Reale will also host exhibitions by Pistoletto, Morandi, Basilico, Newton, El Greco and Goya.


    ROME - From March to July at Palazzo Barberini the exhibition "The Barberinis. Caravaggio, Bernini, Poussin and the birth of the Baroque", curated by Maurizia Cicconi, Flaminia Gennari Santori, Sebastian Schütze, and set up for the 400th anniversary of the election pope of Urban VIII Barberini.

The itinerary, which brings together some masterpieces from the Barberini collection for the first time, tells how during the pontificate of Urban VIII there was an extraordinary artistic situation, encouraged by him, which determined the birth and affirmation of the Baroque in Europe.
