(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JAN 04 - Amazon confirms the heavy personnel cuts anticipated by the Wall Street Journal: they will affect a total of 18,000 jobs.
In a communication to employees, the managing director, Andy Jassy, explains that the decision has not been taken lightly.
"We work to support those affected by offering packages that include a payment, health benefits, and support" to find a job, he read in the email.
Jassy then notes how "Amazon has navigated an uncertain and difficult economy in the past and will continue to do so. These changes will help us pursue long-term opportunities with a stronger cost structure."
The Wall Street Journal reported that the company was preparing to cut 17,000 jobs, up from 10,000 originally planned.
