The Californian leader remained at 201 but this time his rival Byron Donalds reduced his consensus from 20 to 17 votes: three rebels voted for other candidates, perhaps signaling some future availability, but McCarthy needs another 17 preferences.
One deputy, on the other hand, did not vote.
