Through a blue boy comic book, Nadav Nachmani tells about his childhood in Tiberias in the 1980s - and sweeps the younger generation after him.

Children's comics is a rather complex matter in the history of the Hebrew language, certainly one that is composed as "illuminated" and more to the beginning of reading.

It is surprising to discover that Nadav Nachmani (37) met the task with distinction with his first independent work, "The Blue Boy".

Through one blue boy, and characters that are each characterized by different colors, Nachmani succeeds in capturing the hearts of readers, and not only those who are really beginning to read, but all young comic lovers.

He is a graduate of "Bezalel" in the screen arts department specializing in classical animation.

After finishing his studies, he began working as an animator, and last month, when his book was published by Kinneret Zamora-Beitan, Nachmani - and rightly so - moved to the front of the stage.

Nachmani is amazing to describe the story of his life in Tiberias in the 1980s and early 1990s, then another place that Israelis saw as a major vacation destination, with the never-ending Sea of Galilee and "Halona Gal".

"The sequels are already in the works",

There is a closing of a circle here, because you also achieved your personal success in the same Tiberias, this time as an adult.

"The truth is, I didn't expect it to be like this. In Corona, I returned to Tiberias, which is a different Tiberias, and I started doing comics workshops on Zoom. I wanted to see if it would work at all, and dozens of children came to me. It was exciting, and I was surprised by the tremendous thirst for it."

So different from your childhood when it comes to comics.

"I entered this world through the Disney classics, and it immediately brought me back - 'The Lion King,' 'Aladdin.' The comics. I was Nadav the painter, and my dreams centered on becoming an animator. Of course, that was unusual at that time in my environment."

book cover,

You're 37 and this is your breakout book.

Do you think it is related to the field you chose to pursue?

"For ten years I was in front of the publishers in everything related to this book. I did things on social media and the 'blue boy' has its own Instagram page, but the publishers were less connected to the format I proposed to them. But then this change happened during Corona: I saw the children's reactions, and suddenly everything changed And it exploded at the same time. Both in front of the expenses and in front of the children."

What are the expectations now?

"The sequels are already in the works, because this character has managed to create readers for herself, and that makes me very happy. The fantasy is that it will be translated into more languages because in the end, abstractly of course, this blue boy is me."
